My takes on AWS Re:Invent 2021

Tags:

You know what time it is. The time of the year when Andy Jassy steps up on the scene
in Las Vegas and announce all the cool things Amazon is releasing in their cloud. But
where is Andy?

For everyone who missed it earlier this year. As King Bezos has stepped down as the VP
of Amazon the brave knight Andy Jassy took over from being CEO. Andy was one of the
enthusiastic highlights in every event. If he can bring those traits to his new post
then it will completely change Amazon. As for Bezos goes we can expect him to aim for
an entrepreneurship in space for the coming future.
Now onto what you are really here for, what was announced of great value? What was the
holy grail?

The new CEO Adam Selipsky did little to impress. The holy grail of innovation was missing.

– Yes, customers were introduced to AWS Private 5G, your private cellular network.

– Yes, AWS SageMaker got a couple of neat features such as a visual no-code interface and
Studio Lab for ML dummies.

– Yes, Amazon CodeGuru became less dull and can now understand that there are hardcoded
secrets in your code… Yay?

– Yes, the old Amazon Inspector your grandmother gave you as a Christmas gift in 2015
became “hip” again.

Maybe it’s the old Christmas Scrooge that has gotten the better of me. But it won’t
turn me away from attending next year’s Re:Invent (Given that Covid 2.0 doesn’t turn
the world upside down again in 2022).

In the mean time I will dream about that straight-to-my-face Snowmobile truck from 2016.

Sweet dreams.
